Terms of Service

1. Scope & Agreement
These Terms of Service govern your use of the website and mobile app "LearnChess" (the "Service"), operated by Nikolas Burk, Erich-Nehlhans-Str. 29, 10247 Berlin, Germany.
By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Service Description
LearnChess is a chess learning platform offering puzzles, lessons, game analysis, and AI-powered coaching. The Service is available in the following tiers:
- Pawn (free): Limited access to puzzles, lessons, and analysis.
- Knight ($4.99/month, or local equivalent incl. VAT): Extended access with unlimited puzzles, opening repertoire, and more.
- Queen ($12.99/month, or local equivalent incl. VAT): Unlimited access to all features.
Features and pricing are subject to change. Changes affecting existing subscriptions will be communicated with reasonable notice.
3. Subscriptions & Billing
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly and renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled.
Web: Subscriptions purchased on the website are processed by our payment provider Paddle.com, which acts as Merchant of Record. Paddle is the contracting party for these payment transactions. You may cancel at any time from the settings page; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
iOS (Apple App Store): Subscriptions purchased in the iOS app are processed by Apple and subject to Apple's terms. Manage or cancel your subscription in your iPhone/iPad Settings under "Subscriptions."
Android (Google Play Store): Subscriptions purchased in the Android app are processed by Google and subject to Google's terms. Manage or cancel your subscription in the Google Play Store app under "Subscriptions."
4. Right of Withdrawal & Refunds

5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, you may not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Use automated access (bots, scraping) without permission.
- Interfere with the security or availability of the Service.
- Share or transfer your account to third parties.
6. Intellectual Property
All content of the Service (lessons, puzzles, design, software) is protected by copyright. Use is limited to personal, non-commercial purposes within the Service.
Chess games imported by users and personal data remain the property of the respective user.
7. Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is." We strive for reliable operation but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.
Liability is limited to intent and gross negligence. In cases of slight negligence, we are only liable for breaches of essential contractual obligations, limited to foreseeable, typical damages. This does not apply to damages arising from injury to life, body, or health.
8. Termination & Account Suspension
You may delete your account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
Upon cancellation of a paid subscription, access continues until the end of the paid period. After that, the account reverts to the free tier (Pawn).
9. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms. Material changes will be communicated with reasonable notice via email or within the Service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The place of jurisdiction is Berlin, to the extent permitted by law. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) does not apply.
For consumers within the EU, mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country of residence apply in addition.
